What can an agent do with Aleph through MCP?

An agent can query Aleph tables, dashboards, spreadsheets and integrations. It can also create, change and delete many of those objects, run automations and manage users and permissions.

Where it runs

SourceTools
Aleph's MCP configuration page14 tools in four groups: tables (3), blocks (4), dashboards (3) and integrations (4).
Claude's connector directory124. Treat the directory as the fuller list of what the server offers today.

How writes behave

Aleph documents no draft or approval gate, so treat a write as applied when it runs. The directory lists the tools below, but Aleph doesn't document whether an agent must preview first or whether every write can be rolled back.

  • Version tools for tables and dashboards: list, compare and restore.
  • Preview tools for some writes: preview_table_push, preview_dashboard_restore, preview_calculated_table, preview_table_custom_column.

Write tools that matter most

What they doTools
Change who can see whatmanage_permissions, manage_user, delete_user, manage_user_group
Send information outsend_dashboard_update, run_automations, manage_automations, export_dashboard, plus submit_support_ticket and submit_mcp_feedback, which by their names send content to Aleph
Push datapush_table, append_rows, set_spreadsheet_range

Good to know

  • No tool name suggests payments or money movement.
  • The directory also lists pull_data and list_data_warehouses.
  • Aleph doesn't describe where push_table sends data.

Can

  • Read: list and search tables, values, dashboards, blocks, spreadsheets, dimensions, mappings and exchange rates, run SQL queries, and evaluate Aleph functions in Claude for Excel (per the directory)
  • Build reports: create, update and delete dashboard blocks and pages, and change dashboard layouts and filters (manage_block, manage_dashboard)
  • Change data and models: append rows, set spreadsheet ranges, manage tables, dimensions, mappings, calculated items and exchange rates, and restore earlier versions (per the directory)
  • Run and refresh: trigger integration refreshes, run automations and send dashboard updates
  • Administer: list and change users, user groups, permissions and workspace AI settings, and read or export audit logs (per the directory)

Cannot

  • Limit itself to read-only: Aleph documents no toggle to turn off write tools or narrow the tool set
  • Guarantee every tool is limited to the signed-in user's access: Aleph says list_tables returns tables available to that user, but doesn't document how other tools are scoped
  • Run without an Admin enabling AI features in the Aleph workspace, per Aleph

What access does it get?

It acts as the Aleph user who signs in through OAuth, with that user's Aleph permissions; Aleph publishes no named OAuth scopes.

WhereScopes and permissions (as documented)Admin requirement
Aleph MCP Server (remote, all clients) and Claude connectorNot documented by the vendor. Aleph says users sign in with OAuth 2.0 in the browser and list_tables returns tables available to that user; it doesn't document how other tools are scoped. The connector also exposes tools that read and change users, groups and permissions.A workspace Admin must enable AI features (Settings › AI › Enable AI Features), per Aleph. Aleph doesn't document which roles may connect. Claude Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds connectors and may restrict Claude Code MCP servers. ChatGPT Business/Enterprise: an admin must allow the app or custom connector.

How do I connect it?

Add the Aleph connector from Claude's directory, or add https://mcp.getaleph.com/mcp as a remote server in your client and sign in to Aleph when the OAuth window opens.

  1. Ask a workspace Admin to enable AI features in Aleph (Settings › AI › Enable AI Features).
  2. Open claude.com/connectors/aleph and choose Add to Claude, or in Claude go to Customize › Connectors and add a custom connector named Aleph with https://mcp.getaleph.com/mcp.
  3. Sign in to Aleph in the browser window to finish OAuth.
  4. Once connected, open the connector's tool settings in Claude, turn off write tools you don't need (for example delete_user, manage_permissions, manage_ai_settings, push_table, send_dashboard_update) and set the rest to Needs approval. Aleph offers no read-only mode.
  5. Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector before members can connect.

Aleph's page says not to add a trailing slash or spaces to the URL. Keep Claude's tool approval prompts on for write tools.

What should a finance team watch for?

Watch the gap between Aleph's 14 documented tools and the 124 listed in Claude's directory. Many of the 124 change data, users or permissions, and Aleph documents no draft or approval gate.

  • Aleph documents no draft or approval gate, so treat writes as applied when they run. The directory lists version-restore tools for tables and dashboards and preview tools for some writes, but Aleph doesn't document whether an agent must preview first or whether every write can be rolled back.
  • Access-changing tools (manage_permissions, manage_user, delete_user, manage_user_group) run with the signed-in user's rights. Where you can, connect as a non-Admin user whose Aleph role fits the job.
  • Outbound tools (send_dashboard_update, run_automations, manage_automations, export_dashboard) can send data outside Aleph; Aleph doesn't document their destinations. Its product page gives a weekly Slack variance summary as an example workflow. submit_support_ticket could put financial data into an Aleph support ticket.
  • Prompt injection: table values, dashboard text and integration data are free text. An injected instruction could push the agent to delete a dashboard, change permissions or send data out, so keep human approval on for every write tool.
  • Aleph publishes no rate limits, row caps or pricing for the server, and no tool-level reference beyond its 14 documented tools.
  • Claude's directory warns that Anthropic doesn't control which tools developers expose; the 124-tool count comes from the listing on 21 Oct 2026 and may change.
  • Data handling: Aleph's privacy policy (updated 18 July 2024) doesn't address AI providers or model training. Check it and your AI provider's terms before sending financial data.

How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?

The read tools suit questions and analysis on live plan and actuals data. The write tools suit drafting dashboards and models that a person checks before anyone relies on them.

Inside a company

  • Ask how much engineering budget is left for the quarter against plan, from Aleph's live tables.
  • Draft an OpEx dashboard by department and spend type, then have the FP&A lead review it before sharing.
  • Check board talking points against last quarter's actuals and flag figures that don't match.
  • Rebuild a budget against actuals sheet in Claude for Excel with Aleph functions instead of pasted values.

At an accounting firm

  • Answer a client's cost-per-head question across HRIS and ERP data held in their Aleph workspace. The directory lists list_workspaces and switch_workspace, so a user with several client workspaces can switch in one session; confirm which workspace the agent is in before any write.
  • Draft variance commentary for a client's management pack from Aleph data, then review it against the source tables.
  • Review a client's Aleph audit logs and permission lists during an onboarding or controls review.
  • Prepare a draft dashboard for a client meeting and leave publishing and sharing to the client's team.

Have a person approve any change to Aleph tables, dashboards, users or automations before it runs. Aleph is a planning layer, so keep postings to the ledger in the ERP.

FAQ

Is this official?

Yes. Aleph hosts the server, documents it on its MCP configuration page, and is listed as the developer of the Aleph connector in Claude's directory.

Is it free?

Aleph doesn't state a price. You need an active Aleph account with AI features enabled by an Admin, plus a Claude or ChatGPT plan that allows connectors.

Does it change data in Aleph?

Yes, it can. The directory lists tools that create, update and delete tables, dashboards, mappings, exchange rates, users and permissions, and that run automations. Aleph documents no draft step, so keep approval prompts on.

Is my data used to train models?

Aleph's MCP pages and privacy policy don't address model training. Check Aleph's terms and your AI provider's terms, or ask Aleph directly.

Can my accountant use it on my behalf?

Aleph doesn't address this. Calls run as the Aleph user who signs in, so an outside adviser would need their own Aleph user with suitable access, and AI features enabled in your workspace. The directory lists switch_workspace, so an adviser with several client workspaces should confirm which one the agent is in before any write.
