Anrok MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor: what it does, access, how to connect
Anrok runs one hosted MCP server (mcp.anrok.com, OAuth 2.1) with 32 tools that read tax data and write customers, products, certificates and transactions. Verified 21 Oct 2026.

- Works with
- Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT (Business, Enterprise, Edu; Pro read-only), Codex CLI, Cursor and other remote MCP clients.

What can an agent do with Anrok through MCP?
It can search transactions, filings, nexus status, customers, products and exemption certificates, and it can create or change customers, products, certificates and transactions in your Anrok account.
Anrok's tools reference lists 32 tools. The press release says "30+ tools".
What it reads
Most tools are reads:
- Transaction search and totals
- Discrepancies between tax collected and owed
- Filing status and remittances
- Nexus threshold progress
How writes behave
- Six tools write. Anrok describes no draft step or undo for any of them.
create_or_update_transactioncan overwrite an existing transaction by ID. That tool returns the calculated tax.- Anrok's press release says every write shows what changed.
- Anrok says all writes are audited.
Money
- No tool moves money, approves a filing, voids or refunds.
Can
- Search and summarise transactions by date, jurisdiction, customer or VAT status
- List tax discrepancies (collected vs. owed) and estimate tax on a hypothetical sale
- Read filings, remittances and bank transfers
- Check nexus status, exposure and registration by jurisdiction
- Create customers and products (write)
- File, request or archive exemption certificates (write)
- Create or overwrite a transaction by ID (write)
Cannot
- Void, refund or approve a filing. Anrok's tools reference lists no such tools
- Move money or make remittances
- Return more than status for a voided transaction (per Anrok)
- Cover more than one Anrok account per connection (per Anrok)
What access does it get?
It gets the tools covered by the permissions you approve at sign-in. Anrok names six permission groups, with transactions split into read and write.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Anrok MCP server (remote, OAuth 2.1) | Permissions named in Anrok's tools reference: Customers, Certificates, Transactions read, Transactions write, Products, Registrations. Filing tools need Transactions read; three utility tools work with any connection. Only transactions are split into read and write. Customers, Certificates and Products each include write tools as well as reads (create_customer; create_certificate, create_certificate_request, archive_certificate; create_product). Anrok doesn't document whether single permissions can be declined at sign-in, so treat any connection as able to write. | Anrok doesn't document which Anrok user roles can authorise. Claude Team/Enterprise: an Owner or Primary Owner adds the custom connector. ChatGPT Business/Enterprise/Edu: a workspace admin or owner enables developer mode and publishes the app. |
How do I connect it?
Add https://mcp.anrok.com/mcp as a custom remote connector in your AI client, sign in to Anrok and click Allow. Anrok has no Claude directory listing, so in Claude you add it as a custom connector.
- Free, Pro, Max: go to Customize › Connectors, click +, then Add custom connector. Enter the name Anrok and the URL https://mcp.anrok.com/mcp, click Add, then Connect. Claude's help centre says Free plans get one custom connector.
- Team/Enterprise: an Owner or Primary Owner goes to Organization settings › Connectors, clicks Add, hovers over Custom and selects Web (Anrok also says to choose Web if Claude asks for a connector type). Use the same name and URL and leave OAuth client fields blank. Members then click Connect under Customize › Connectors.
- Sign in to Anrok, choose your account, review the requested permissions and click Allow.
- In a new chat, open + › Connectors and switch Anrok on for that conversation.
Anrok's docs do not give separate Claude Desktop steps; Desktop uses the same Claude account connectors. Menu paths follow Claude's help centre, checked 21 Oct 2026.
What should a finance team watch for?
Write tools change live tax records. One connection covers one Anrok account. Anrok says calls are rate limited but publishes no numbers.
- create_or_update_transaction can overwrite a transaction by ID, with no documented draft or undo. Anrok says most AI clients ask for confirmation before write tools run; keep that on.
- create_certificate_request can email a customer asking for an exemption certificate, so an agent can contact customers on your behalf.
- Record text returned by the tools is untrusted input: an instruction hidden in a customer or product field could push the agent to overwrite a transaction or archive a certificate. Keep human approval on for every write.
- Each connection covers one Anrok account; for a second entity add Anrok again under another name (e.g. anrok-eu) and name the account in prompts, per Anrok.
- Anrok says each call is rate limited but publishes no limits. GA or beta status and data-retention terms are not documented in Anrok's MCP docs. Check Anrok's and your AI provider's terms before connecting.
- Anrok's MCP docs and press release don't describe how to revoke access. To disconnect, remove Anrok in your AI client: in Claude, under Customize › Connectors (Team/Enterprise Owners can also remove it under Organization settings › Connectors). Anrok's product page may cover revocation from Anrok's side, but it blocked our automated check on 21 Oct 2026.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
The read tools fit tax questions and reconciliation checks. Use the write tools for record upkeep, with a person confirming each change before it runs.
Inside a company
- Ask for tax collected by jurisdiction for last quarter, or which states are close to a nexus threshold.
- List transactions where tax collected differs from tax owed and prepare notes for review before the next filing.
- Check filing status and remittances before month-end close.
- Draft new customer or product records with a tax category, confirmed by a person before the write runs.
At an accounting firm
- Prepare for a client call with a summary of filings, nexus exposure and open discrepancies for that Anrok account.
- Review exemption certificate coverage and draft certificate requests for a manager to approve before any email goes out.
- Estimate tax on a hypothetical sale to support a client's pricing question, with nothing saved to Anrok.
- Plan one named connection per client Anrok account, since each connection covers a single account.
Keep a person approving anything that changes Anrok records. Treat AI summaries as drafts until they tie to Anrok's reports.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. Anrok hosts the server at mcp.anrok.com and documents it at apidocs.anrok.com/mcp. There is no open-source version and no Claude directory listing.
Is it free?
Anrok says it is available to Anrok customers and publishes no separate MCP price.
Does it change data in Anrok?
Yes, if you approve the write permissions. Six tools create or change customers, products, certificates and transactions; none voids, refunds, approves filings or moves money.
Is my data used to train models?
Anrok's MCP docs don't address this. Check Anrok's terms and your AI provider's training and retention policies before connecting.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
Anrok doesn't document this. The connection uses the Anrok login of whoever signs in, so an accountant would need their own access to your Anrok account.
