Athennian MCP and Athennian Intelligence: what it does, what access it gets, how to connect
Athennian offers a read-only MCP (hosting model not stated) that lets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot retrieve entity and Minute Book data under each user's permissions. Verified 21 Oct 2026.
- Official MCP · read-only

- Athennian doesn't state the hosting model. Its launch release describes access rolled out centrally to large teams without per-user setup, which suggests a service run by Athennian. No server URL, open-source repo or local server is published.
- Auth
- Not documented by the vendor. The launch release says large rollouts don't need per-user setup or rotation of individual API credentials, but doesn't name the sign-in method.
- Read / write

What can an agent do with Athennian through MCP?
It can read live entity, ownership and Minute Book data from Athennian for multi-step governance work. Per Athennian, it cannot add, change or delete anything.
Two products
Athennian launched two products together on 6 Oct 2026.
| Product | What it does |
|---|---|
| Athennian Intelligence | AI search inside the Athennian app. Users ask questions across corporate records and Minute Book documents and get answers linked to the source documents. |
| Athennian MCP | Takes the same governed data to outside AI tools. Athennian says this suits multi-step work such as tracing beneficial ownership or auditing entity records. |
About the MCP
- Athennian says the MCP fetches live data at the time of each request and ships with a library of prebuilt prompts and skills.
- Athennian has not published a tool list, so tool names and counts are not documented.
Good to know
- Athennian's developer portal also documents a separate GraphQL API (queries and mutations, API key in an
x-api-keyheader). That portal does not mention MCP. - This page covers the MCP only.
Can
- Retrieve corporate entity records and Minute Book documents the signed-in user is allowed to see (per Athennian)
- Trace beneficial ownership across entities (an Athennian example use)
- Pull together information for transaction diligence (an Athennian example use)
- Identify upcoming compliance obligations from entity data (an Athennian example use)
- Compare an external document with the records held in Athennian (an Athennian example use)
- Use Athennian's prebuilt prompts and skills for common governance workflows (per Athennian; contents not published)
Cannot
- Add, change or delete data in Athennian; the connection is read-only (per Athennian)
- See entities or documents beyond the user's existing Athennian roles and permissions (per Athennian)
- File anything with a registry or regulator; Athennian describes retrieval only
What access does it get?
Read-only access, limited to the roles and permissions each user already has in Athennian. Athennian publishes no OAuth scope names.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Athennian MCP | Not documented by the vendor. Athennian says the MCP "applies the roles and permissions already configured for each user" and is read-only. | Not documented by the vendor for the MCP. For Athennian Intelligence, Athennian says admins control which entities and documents it can reach and can exclude individual documents from AI search. Ask Athennian whether MCP access can be switched on or off per user or org-wide: its developer portal lists a hasAiAccess field on users and AI_ENABLE/AI_DISABLE audit-trail actions, but doesn't explain them. In the AI client: Claude Team/Enterprise, an Owner adds custom connectors; ChatGPT Business/Enterprise, an admin must allow the app or enable developer mode. |
How do I connect it?
Ask Athennian: as of 21 Oct 2026 it has not published a server URL, sign-in method or setup guide, and there is no Claude or ChatGPT directory listing.
Athennian names Claude as supported but publishes no connector listing or remote URL as of 21 Oct 2026. Once Athennian gives you a URL, the standard route is Customize › Connectors › Add custom connector; on Team/Enterprise an Owner adds it.
What should a finance team watch for?
Athennian hasn't published the endpoint, sign-in method, plan or tool list. Confirm all four with Athennian before rollout.
- Access follows each user's Athennian permissions. A user with broad roles gives the AI tool broad reach. Review roles before rollout; for Intelligence, Athennian says admins can exclude individual documents from AI search.
- Data leaves Athennian and is processed by your AI provider. Athennian makes no public statement on retention or model training for the MCP; check your Athennian agreement and your AI provider's terms.
- Minute Book documents and resolutions are free text. An instruction hidden in a document could steer the agent. The MCP can't change Athennian, but the agent may have other tools that can send, post or pay. Keep human approval on those.
- Athennian doesn't state rate limits, plan cost, or whether the MCP is in beta or generally available.
- Before rollout, confirm with Athennian: the sign-in method (OAuth or a shared key), whether tokens are issued per user (needed for per-user permissions and audit), and whether MCP queries appear in Athennian's audit trail.
- Answers are not legal or compliance advice. Check ownership chains and deadlines against the source records before acting.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
The connection is read-only, so it suits questions, checks and reporting on entity data. Any change is made by a person in Athennian.
Inside a company
- Ask which subsidiaries have compliance obligations coming due next quarter, where those dates are tracked in Athennian.
- Map the ownership chain of a group entity before an intercompany or financing discussion.
- Assemble entity, officer and share-capital details for a diligence request list.
- Check a draft intercompany agreement's party names and registration details against Athennian records.
At an accounting firm
- Compile a client's entity list and ownership structure as input to a year-end or tax-structure review.
- Flag gaps between Minute Book records and the entity data a client has given you.
- Prepare a list of upcoming compliance dates tracked in Athennian for a client meeting, from data your role can see.
- Answer a client's question about who signs for or owns an entity without searching documents by hand.
Any change to entity records, filings or the Minute Book stays a manual step in Athennian, made and approved by a person.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. Athennian announced Athennian MCP itself on 6 Oct 2026. It is not yet listed in the Claude or ChatGPT directories.
Is it free?
Athennian doesn't publish a price or plan for the MCP. Ask your Athennian account team. You also need a plan with your AI provider that allows custom connectors.
Does it change data in Athennian?
No. Athennian says the connection is read-only: AI tools can retrieve information but cannot add, change or delete data.
Is my data used to train models?
Athennian makes no public statement on training or retention for the MCP. Check your Athennian agreement and your AI provider's data terms.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
Athennian doesn't document external-user access for the MCP. Access appears to follow each user's own Athennian roles, so an outside accountant would likely need their own Athennian user with suitable permissions. Confirm this with Athennian.
