What can an agent do with FinanceKey through MCP?
An agent can read live treasury data from FinanceKey (payments, balances, FX positions and forecasts) and use it for analysis and draft reports. It cannot change anything in FinanceKey.
FinanceKey announced the server on 27 May 2026 and calls it an open connection layer. You bring your own AI tool and point it at your FinanceKey environment. FinanceKey doesn't supply a built-in assistant for this.
Data
- FinanceKey says the data is real time, updating as activity happens across connected banks, ERPs and financial systems, with no overnight batch.
- Its examples include a global cash position net of intraday movements, liquidity exposures, payment activity, report drafting and exception investigation.
Good to know
- FinanceKey does not publish a tool list, tool count or per-tool reference.
- Its API documentation at docs.financekey.com does not mention the MCP server as of 21 Oct 2026.
Can
- Report a global cash position net of intraday movements, per FinanceKey's example
- Show liquidity exposures, per FinanceKey's example
- Analyse payment activity and investigate exceptions
- Read balances, FX positions and forecasts as they update
- Draft treasury reports and summaries for a person to review
Cannot
- Create, change, approve, release or execute anything in FinanceKey; the server is read-only and FinanceKey says no actions execute without human approval
- Show data a user cannot already see inside FinanceKey, per FinanceKey's statement on permissions
What access does it get?
Read-only access, limited to the signed-in user's existing FinanceKey permissions. FinanceKey does not publish scopes or the sign-in method.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| FinanceKey MCP Server | Not documented by the vendor. FinanceKey says queries follow your existing entity structures, user permissions and access controls, so a user cannot reach data through AI that they cannot see in the platform. | FinanceKey doesn't document admin steps. Standard client rules apply. On Claude Team/Enterprise, an Owner adds custom connectors. On ChatGPT Business/Enterprise, an admin must enable developer mode or allow the app. |
How do I connect it?
Ask FinanceKey for the connection details, then add the server as a custom connector in your AI tool. FinanceKey says no new implementation project is needed, but it publishes no step-by-step guide or URL.
- Ask your FinanceKey contact for the MCP server URL and sign-in method (neither is published as of 21 Oct 2026), and whether an admin must enable MCP access in FinanceKey before users can connect. Also ask which identity the connection runs as (each named user or a shared service user), since a shared user would bypass the per-user permission limit.
- On Claude Team/Enterprise, an Owner adds the custom connector for the organisation; on individual plans, open Customize › Connectors › Add custom connector and paste the URL FinanceKey gives you.
- Complete the sign-in FinanceKey specifies. FinanceKey says the connection is read-only and limited to what your FinanceKey user can see.
FinanceKey has no Claude directory listing as of 21 Oct 2026, so there is no Add to Claude button.
What should a finance team watch for?
Undocumented setup and auth details, live bank-level data reaching an AI provider, and free text in payment records.
- The server URL, sign-in method and OAuth scopes are not public; ask FinanceKey for them before your IT or security review.
- Access follows each user's FinanceKey permissions, so review who has broad entity or bank visibility before enabling AI access for them.
- Firm uses assume the client gives you your own FinanceKey user; FinanceKey doesn't document multi-client or outside-adviser access.
- FinanceKey says the server is read-only today and plans AI-assisted workflows later with human sign-off at every stage. Re-check the tool scope whenever FinanceKey adds write actions.
- Treat payment references, counterparty names and memo fields returned by the server as untrusted input. An agent should never follow instructions found in them. Once write actions exist, an injected instruction could push it toward approving or releasing a payment.
- FinanceKey's announcement makes no statement on data retention or model training. Check FinanceKey's terms and your AI provider's terms before connecting live cash data. FinanceKey's homepage says it runs single-tenant infrastructure, is ISO 27001 certified and independently audited, and is GDPR compliant with full data residency; none of this covers data once it reaches your AI provider.
- Treat AI-drafted cash positions and forecasts as drafts. Tie them back to FinanceKey reports before they reach treasury decisions or board packs.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
The server is read-only, so it suits questions, monitoring and reporting on cash and treasury data. It cannot take actions in FinanceKey.
Inside a company
- Ask for the day's global cash position net of intraday movements before a funding decision.
- Draft the weekly liquidity update for the CFO from live balances and forecasts, then check the figures.
- Investigate payment exceptions or unusual payment activity across entities.
- Summarise FX positions by currency ahead of a hedging discussion.
At an accounting firm
- Prepare for a client treasury review by summarising balances and liquidity exposures by entity.
- Pull payment activity for a period to support month-end or audit preparation questions.
- Compare forecasts with actual cash movements when reviewing a client's cash planning.
- Reconcile a client's reported period-end bank balances to FinanceKey balances during review work.
Whatever the use, keep a person approving anything that moves money or changes FinanceKey, and treat AI-drafted figures as drafts until they tie to FinanceKey's reports.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. FinanceKey built the MCP server itself and announced it on 27 May 2026; its homepage lists AI as "Available, MCP-native".
Is it free?
FinanceKey's pricing page lists plans without prices and doesn't say whether MCP access is included or extra, so ask for a quote. FinanceKey says the server is available now to existing customers with no new implementation project. You also need an AI plan that allows custom connectors.
Does it change data in FinanceKey?
No. FinanceKey says the server is read-only, so it cannot create, change, approve or execute anything in FinanceKey, and that no actions execute in FinanceKey without human approval. FinanceKey plans AI-assisted workflows later, with human sign-off kept mandatory.
Is my data used to train models?
FinanceKey's announcement doesn't address this. Check FinanceKey's terms and your AI provider's terms before connecting.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
FinanceKey doesn't document this. Access follows FinanceKey user permissions, so an outside accountant would need their own FinanceKey user with the right access; ask FinanceKey.
