Maxio MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT: what it does, access, how to connect
Maxio runs a hosted MCP connector (OAuth, SSO required) with 38 documented tools: read-only Analyst or read/write Bookkeeper role, no payment processing. Verified 21 Oct 2026.
- Official remote MCP connector · read & write (by role)
- Hosting
- Remote, hosted by Maxio. No fixed public address: a per-site URL shown in Integrations > Maxio MCP (Copy URL). No local or open-source server.
- Auth
- OAuth sign-in to Maxio, tied to your SSO identity. Maxio says each request carries a user token that expires after one minute.
- Read / write
- Set by role: Analyst is read-only; Bookkeeper adds create tools. 28 of the 38 listed tools read and 10 write; none processes payments.
- Works with
- Claude (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise), ChatGPT with limits on create tools, and other MCP clients. Maxio says Claude has "access to every tool Maxio has built".

What can an agent do with Maxio through MCP?
It can read customers, subscriptions, invoices, payments, contracts and reports across Advanced Billing and Maxio Core. With the Bookkeeper role it can also create catalog items, customers, subscriptions, sales orders and Core transactions.
Where it runs
Maxio's tools reference lists 38 tools by our count (Maxio states no total). Most are reads.
| Area | Tools |
|---|---|
| Account | 1 |
| Advanced Billing | 16 |
| Maxio Core | 21 |
How actions behave
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Create components, coupons, customers, product families, products, subscriptions and sales orders | No documented confirm step, so treat them as saving when they run. |
| Create Maxio Core Transactions | Builds up to 100 transactions on one contract for review and saves nothing until you confirm. Can generate invoices if you turn that on. Maxio says it needs create permission but names no role. |
| Update Component Quantity | Previews proration and tax and asks for a confirm. Once confirmed, the change alters what a customer is billed. |
| Update Maxio Core Transaction | Edits dates, amounts, MRR and ARR, quantity, order details, notes and invoice description after a confirm step. Lets you regenerate the transaction's revenue entries afterwards. |
Money
- No tool charges cards, refunds, cancels subscriptions or emails customers.
Can
- List and retrieve invoices, pro forma invoices, subscriptions and customers in Advanced Billing
- List charges, payments, refunds, adjustments and credits for a given customer or subscription (read only)
- Run, fetch and download Maxio Core reports, and read contracts, metrics policies and projects
- Create products, product families, components, coupons, customers and subscriptions (Bookkeeper, write)
- Create sales orders (Bookkeeper) and up to 100 Core transactions on one contract per review (create permission; role not stated by Maxio)
- Change a component quantity with proration, or edit a Core transaction (update permission, write)
Cannot
- Process payments (per Maxio, Bookkeeper cannot)
- Expose payment card or bank account details (per Maxio)
- Collect payment on a new subscription other than remittance-style (per Maxio)
- Mask individual fields; access is set tool by tool (per Maxio)
- Run every create tool in ChatGPT, which Maxio says is restricted for create actions
What access does it get?
Whatever the role chosen at setup allows: Analyst for read-only reporting, or Bookkeeper for selected create actions. Maxio recommends starting read-only.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Maxio MCP connector (remote, OAuth + SSO) | No OAuth scope names are documented. Access is by role: Analyst (read-only billing, reports, MRR, ARR, churn, transaction history) or Bookkeeper (adds create for catalog, customers, subscriptions, sales orders; no payments). Maxio doesn't say which role grants the two update tools, only that they need update permission. | A Maxio admin accepts the AI/MCP terms, sets up the connector and picks the role, and can restrict it to approved users or teams and control which tools are exposed. Claude Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds custom connectors. ChatGPT Business/Enterprise: an admin enables developer mode. |
How do I connect it?
Ask Maxio Support to enable MCP, then in Advanced Billing open Integrations › Maxio MCP, accept the terms, choose a role and client, and add the connector in Claude or ChatGPT with OAuth.
- In Advanced Billing, as an admin, go to Integrations › Maxio MCP, review About MCP, accept the Terms and select Setup Connector.
- Under Select Role choose Analyst unless a write is needed (Maxio advises the narrowest role); under Select Client choose Quick add to Claude. Admins can also limit it to approved users or teams.
- Signed in to claude.ai (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), click Add to Claude: the Add custom connector dialog opens prefilled. Click Add and complete the OAuth sign-in. On Team/Enterprise only an Owner can add it; members then connect it in Settings › Connectors with their own sign-in.
- Manual route: copy the server URL (Copy URL), then in Claude go to Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector, paste it and sign in. Test in a new chat.
Claude names the connector after your organization and role. There is no Claude directory listing as of 21 Oct 2026.
What should a finance team watch for?
The Bookkeeper role writes to live billing records, and several create tools have no documented confirm step. Setup also depends on Maxio Support and SSO.
- Update Component Quantity changes what a customer is billed, and Create Maxio Core Transactions can generate invoices if enabled. Keep the client's approval prompt on for every write.
- Create Customers takes an array of customer records and bulk-creates them with no documented confirm step, so one unapproved call can create many customers.
- Update Maxio Core Transaction can change MRR and ARR and lets you regenerate revenue entries; review the edit before confirming.
- Text returned by the tools is untrusted input: an instruction hidden in a memo or description could push the agent to create a subscription or change a quantity. Keep human approval on.
- Maxio says it "does not use customer data accessed through MCP to train AI models"; retention by Claude or ChatGPT follows your plan and terms with that provider.
- Maxio says limited data such as logs and temporary report exports may be stored for auditing, with no retention period stated.
- Large reports return as files with links that expire after four hours. In Claude, Organization Settings › Capabilities must allow cloud code execution and network egress; add only your Maxio server's domain to the allowlist.
- No rate limits or row caps are documented. Record audit tabs show the AI agent and the person it acted for, per Maxio.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
The Analyst role suits billing questions and reporting; the Bookkeeper role suits drafting records that a person confirms before they save.
Inside a company
- Ask for MRR, ARR or churn for last quarter, or summarise a saved Maxio Core report.
- For a given customer or subscription, list invoices and recent refunds and credits before month-end close; use a Maxio Core report for Site-wide figures.
- Prepare a new product, coupon or subscription for a finance lead to approve before the create tool runs.
- Review a batch of Core transactions in Maxio's review step before confirming.
At an accounting firm
- Prepare for a client call with a summary of contracts, invoices and payments for that client's Maxio Site.
- Check Core transaction detail against a saved Maxio Core report and note differences for a manager.
- Draft component quantity changes for the client to confirm after Maxio's proration preview; approve sales orders in the AI client before the create tool runs.
- Ask the client's Maxio admin for an Analyst connection when only reporting is needed.
Whatever the use, keep a person approving anything that changes Maxio billing records, and treat AI summaries as drafts until they tie to Maxio's reports.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. Maxio hosts the connector and documents it in its help center. There is no open-source version or Claude directory listing.
Is it free?
Maxio publishes no MCP price. Maxio Support must enable it for your Site, and Claude needs a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan.
Does it change data in Maxio?
With the Analyst role, no. With Bookkeeper, yes: it can create catalog items, customers, subscriptions, sales orders and Core transactions. It cannot process payments.
Is my data used to train models?
Maxio says it does not train AI models on data accessed through MCP. Check Anthropic's or OpenAI's terms for your plan as well.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
Maxio doesn't document access by outside accountants; each request runs under the signed-in user's SSO identity. Ask Maxio how outside users are provisioned.
