monday.com MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other clients: what it does, access, how to connect

monday.com runs an official MCP server, hosted at mcp.monday.com or local via npm, that reads and writes boards, items and docs as the signed-in user. Verified 21 Oct 2026.

  • Official MCP serverOfficial MCP server (remote & local) · read & write
  • Official Claude or ChatGPT connectorClaude connector · read & write
Hosting
Remote Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.monday.com/mcp, hosted by monday.com (SSE not supported), plus an open-source local stdio server (@mondaydotcomorg/monday-api-mcp, MIT).
Auth
Remote: OAuth (hosted connector, your own OAuth app, or dynamic client registration) or an API token as a Bearer header. Local: a monday API token.
Read / write
Read and write. monday.com says 60+ tools, including create, update, move and delete tools. No tool moves money.
Works with
Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio, Gemini CLI and Enterprise, Mistral Le Chat, Perplexity, Figma Make and other MCP clients.
Plan requirement
monday.com's developer docs don't state one; its blog says MCP is included on all plans at no extra cost. Each tool call counts against the account's daily API limit, which is 1,000 to 25,000 calls by plan.

What can an agent do with monday.com through MCP?

It can search and read boards, items, updates and docs, and create, change, move or delete work in them. monday.com says the server has 60+ tools, each one a GraphQL API call.

The tools cover items and subitems, boards, groups and columns, updates (comments), docs, dashboards and widgets, forms, workspaces and folders, automations, notifications and users.

How writes behave

  • Writes take effect at once. No tool creates a draft or waits for approval.
  • create_notification can alert a user in monday and optionally by email.
  • A beta all_monday_api tool (off by default on the local server) runs any GraphQL query or mutation.

Destructive tools

Per the open-source code:

  • delete_item: the README says it removes an item from a board permanently. That means a deleted close or audit-request item may not be recoverable through the agent.
  • delete_column
  • delete_update
  • delete_object_schema
  • delete_object_schema_columns
  • undo_action

Good to know

  • No tool moves money.
  • The Claude directory listing shows 33 tools, so the set your client loads can differ from monday.com's count.

Can

  • Search the account and read boards, items, columns, updates, docs and board activity
  • Create and bulk-update items, change column values, move items between groups
  • Create boards, groups, columns, views, dashboards, widgets, docs, forms, workspaces and folders
  • Post updates and send notifications to users (optionally by email)
  • Delete items, columns and updates, or undo a logged board action
  • Create, list and manage automations that keep running after the conversation ends (remote connector and open-source code)
  • Local only: run in read-only mode, or enable a beta tool that runs any GraphQL query or mutation

Cannot

  • Exceed the signed-in user's monday.com permissions or, with your own OAuth app, its scopes (per monday.com)
  • Use the beta dynamic API tools in read-only mode (per the monday.com README)
  • Connect over SSE; only Streamable HTTP is supported (per monday.com)

What access does it get?

By default, the same access as the monday.com user who signs in; monday.com calls the hosted connector all-or-nothing. Your own OAuth app can cap it with scopes such as boards:read.

WhereScopes and permissions (as documented)Admin requirement
Hosted connector (remote, OAuth)Not documented by the vendor. The connection inherits the user's full monday.com permissions; monday.com's blog says the consent screen lets you pick specific workspaces or account-wide access. An account admin installs the monday MCP app from the marketplace, per monday.com's Claude blog; its ChatGPT blog adds that AI features must be enabled (Administration › Customization › Features). Pre-approved third-party clients (such as Claude and ChatGPT) can then connect through the hosted connector, which an admin can turn off in monday.com admin settings, per monday.com.
Your own OAuth app (remote)Scopes you select in the Developer Center cap the connection, e.g. boards:read only; tokens never exceed the user's permissions or the app's scopes, per monday.com.Create the app with New OAuth flow on, share the client ID and secret only with approved users, and turn off the hosted connector so users can't bypass it, per monday.com.
Other clients (dynamic client registration)Not documented by the vendor; access follows the signed-in user.An account admin approves the connection and its redirect URIs under monday administration › Connectors › Dynamic Connectors, per monday.com.
Local server (API token)The token carries its owner's permissions. The --read-only flag limits the server to read tools.monday.com doesn't document an admin step for the local server.

How do I connect it?

Add https://mcp.monday.com/mcp in your client and sign in with OAuth, after a monday.com admin has enabled MCP for the account; test with a read-only prompt first.

  1. A monday.com account admin first installs the monday MCP app from the monday marketplace; only admins can install marketplace apps, per monday.com's blog.
  2. Open claude.com/connectors/monday and click Add to Claude, or go to Customize › Connectors › Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.monday.com/mcp.
  3. Sign in to monday.com, review the consent screen and choose workspaces or account-wide access.
  4. Test with a read-only prompt, such as listing your boards, before asking for changes.
  5. Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector before members connect; each member then authorises their own account.

The Claude directory lists monday.com as Anthropic verified, added November 2025.

What should a finance team watch for?

Writes and deletes take effect at once. The default connector carries the user's full permissions, and every tool call counts against the account's daily API allowance.

  • Each MCP tool call is a GraphQL request against the daily limit: 1,000 calls on Free, Basic and Standard, 10,000 on Pro, 25,000 on Enterprise, resetting at midnight UTC, per monday.com.
  • Creates, updates, moves, deletes, undo and notifications act immediately. Keep your client's per-call approval on, especially for bulk updates.
  • Least privilege: the hosted connector is all-or-nothing per monday.com, but its blog says users can pick specific workspaces at consent and admins can limit MCP access to particular workspaces (for example to keep Finance or HR out). Choose only the workspaces you need at consent. For narrower access use your own OAuth app with read scopes, or the local server with --read-only.
  • Item names, updates, docs and form answers are untrusted input: an injected instruction could push the agent to change, delete or notify. Don't approve calls you didn't ask for.
  • Local server: MONDAY_TOKEN sits in plain text in the client config. Don't commit or share it, and rotate it regularly, as monday.com advises. A personal API token carries its owner's full permissions, so use one from a least-privileged user. If you use the remote server with a token, pass it as an Authorization Bearer header (per the README), never in the URL.
  • Automations: the agent can create standing automations (create_automation, manage_automations in the code; create_workflows_and_approvals in the Claude listing) that keep changing statuses and notifying people after the conversation ends. Have a person review any automation before it is created.
  • monday.com's blog says it does not review or access the content of your AI conversations and lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001; check monday.com's AI Trust Center and your AI provider's terms.

How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?

Use the read tools for status questions on close and client boards. Use the write tools to draft items, updates and docs that a person checks before they go out.

Inside a company

  • Ask which month-end close items are overdue, who owns them and what changed on the board this week.
  • Summarise updates on a budget or audit-request item before a review meeting.
  • Draft next month's close items from this month's board, reviewed before the agent creates them.
  • Draft a close status doc from board data for a person to edit.

At an accounting firm

  • List client engagements stuck in review or waiting on documents across workspaces.
  • Draft follow-up updates on client items for a manager to approve before posting.
  • Summarise a client board before a meeting: open items, owners and due dates.
  • Post a document-request update on a client item, drafted by the agent and approved by a manager before it posts.

Whatever the use, keep a person approving anything that changes monday.com or another system of record, and treat AI summaries of status as drafts until checked.

FAQ

Is this official?

Yes. monday.com hosts the server, documents it on its developer site and publishes the code on GitHub (MIT). The Claude directory lists it as Anthropic verified. Community monday servers are separate projects.

Is it free?

monday.com's developer docs don't state a plan requirement or price for MCP; its blog says the MCP app is free on all plans. Calls count against your plan's daily API limit.

Does it change data in monday.com?

Yes, immediately and as the signed-in user. It can create and update items, boards, columns, docs, dashboards and forms, post updates, send notifications and delete items, columns and updates.

Is my data used to train models?

monday.com's MCP docs don't say. Its blog says monday.com does not review your AI conversations and points to its AI Trust Center and the AI provider's policies. Check both sets of terms.

Can my accountant use it on my behalf?

monday.com doesn't document delegation. Access follows the account that signs in, so an accountant would connect with their own login to your account and get their own permissions.
