Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence MCP server: what it reads, what access it needs, how to connect
Oracle offers one Fusion Data Intelligence MCP server, in Preview: a local tool you download from your FDI console, with six analysis tool groups and no documented writes. Verified 21 Oct 2026.
- Official MCP server (local, Preview) · analysis, no documented writes
- Hosting
- Local: a downloaded MCP Connect tool (ZIP with a run.sh or run.bat script) that your AI client launches. No remote URL or open-source repo is published.
- Auth
- OAuth 2.0 access token obtained through a browser sign-in with your Fusion Data Intelligence user ID and password.
- Read / write
- Analysis only as documented: six tool groups discover data and run governed Logical SQL. Oracle doesn't call the server read-only.
- Works with
- Claude Desktop and Codex, on Mac or Windows; Oracle documents only these two clients.
- Plan requirement
- An Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence instance. Oracle doesn't list a separate MCP price or plan.

What can an agent do with Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence through MCP?
It can find governed metrics, dimensions, workbooks and reports in Fusion Data Intelligence and run analysis on them, across six tool groups covering common discovery, procurement, payables, marketing and workforce data.
Oracle's tools page lists six tool groups by business area. It doesn't name individual tools, so the exact tools and count aren't published. Oracle suggests asking the client which tools it provides.
How it works
- The analysis tools generate and run Logical SQL against FDI's governed semantic layer.
- Oracle's example prompts are questions, such as which supplier payments are overdue.
Scope
- The server covers FDI analytics data. Transactional Fusion ERP records are outside it.
- Oracle also documents a separate Oracle Analytics Cloud MCP server in the OAC instance that FDI uses. This page doesn't cover it.
Can
- Identify governed business data, available metrics and dimensions (common data discovery and analysis tools)
- Find existing dashboards, workbooks and reports (common content discovery tools)
- Analyse AP aging, payment patterns, overdue exposure and payment risk (ERP payables tools)
- Analyse suppliers, sourcing, purchasing compliance, receipts, agreements and spend (SCM procurement tools)
- Analyse workforce, payroll, compensation, attrition and forecasts (HCM tools), and campaign performance and ROI (CX tools)
Cannot
- Create, change or approve transactions in Fusion ERP: no write tools are documented, and the server reads FDI analytics data
- Return data the signed-in user can't see; tools run with that user's permissions, per Oracle
- Connect from Claude.ai on the web or through a hosted URL: Oracle documents only a downloaded local tool
What access does it get?
It acts as the Fusion Data Intelligence user who signs in: Oracle says the tools use an OAuth 2.0 access token and run with that user's permissions, and it publishes no named MCP scopes.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Fusion Data Intelligence MCP server (MCP Connect tool, local) | Not documented by the vendor as named scopes. A browser sign-in with your FDI user ID and password issues an OAuth 2.0 token; tools run with that user's permissions. | MCP Connect must be enabled in the FDI Console under Service Administration; the switch makes it available to consumers and authors across the instance. Oracle documents no per-user or per-group restriction on who can download the tool, so least privilege rests on each FDI user's data security. Oracle doesn't name the role needed to enable it. |
How do I connect it?
Enable MCP Connect in your FDI Console, download the tool for Claude Desktop or Codex, paste the generated configuration into the client and sign in through the browser.
Oracle documents Claude Desktop only, through a local configuration file; it publishes no remote URL or Claude.ai connector as of 21 Oct 2026. See the local tab.
What should a finance team watch for?
The main watch-points are the Preview status, how much a broadly permissioned user can expose to an AI model, and Logical SQL running without a documented read-only guarantee.
- Oracle labels the server Preview and says that because MCP is evolving, "there might be some changes". It recommends evaluations and observability.
- Answers come from FDI analytics data. The live Fusion ledger isn't queried, and Oracle's MCP pages don't state how current the FDI data is. Reconcile figures to Fusion before using them in the close.
- Oracle warns you "might inadvertently expose unintended data" and says MCP users should only have access to data that can be shared with LLMs. Use a dedicated FDI user with narrow data security for agent work.
- Oracle documents no scopes or tool toggles, so least privilege comes from the user. Oracle notes Claude Desktop and Codex show a permission prompt before running a tool; choose per-use approval in that prompt.
- Oracle doesn't state rate limits, row caps or query timeouts for MCP calls.
- The extracted tool folder and its configuration in claude_desktop_config.json or config.toml point at your FDI instance and run script; keep them out of source control and synced or shared folders. Oracle doesn't document where the access token from the browser sign-in is stored or how long it lasts.
- Workbook and report names, and any text the tools return, can carry instructions an agent reads. If the chat also has write-capable tools for other systems, an injected instruction could push it to post or pay there; keep human approval on.
- Oracle's MCP pages say nothing about AI training; check your Oracle agreement and your AI provider's terms.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
The documented tools discover and analyse data. That suits questions and reporting on FDI's finance, procurement and workforce data, while a person still makes any change in Oracle Fusion.
Inside a company
- Ask which supplier payments are overdue and how AP aging has moved, as input to a cash meeting.
- Find the existing FDI workbook or dashboard that answers a question before building a new one.
- Summarise spend by supplier and purchasing compliance for a procurement review.
- Pull payroll and headcount trends to draft a workforce cost commentary for review.
At an accounting firm
- Answer a client's AP or spend question during a meeting, signed in as an FDI user limited to what that client approved.
- List a client's governed metrics and dimensions to scope an analytics or close engagement.
- Check payment-risk analysis before drafting a working-capital recommendation for partner review.
- Give each staff member their own FDI user so permissions follow the person asking; Oracle doesn't say whether MCP users need extra FDI licences, so check your Oracle agreement.
Any change to ledgers, payments or supplier records stays with a person in Oracle Fusion.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. Oracle documents the Fusion Data Intelligence MCP server in its FDI administration docs and distributes it from your FDI Console. It is labelled Preview.
Is it free?
Oracle doesn't list a separate MCP price. You need a Fusion Data Intelligence instance, and the Claude Desktop or Codex plan you already use.
Does it change data in Oracle Fusion?
No documented tool does. The tool groups discover and analyse FDI analytics data. They don't touch Fusion ERP transactions.
Is my data used to train models?
Oracle's MCP pages don't say. Check your Oracle agreement and your AI provider's terms; the model sees whatever the signed-in FDI user can read.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
Oracle doesn't address this. The tools run as the FDI user who signs in, so an outside adviser would need their own FDI user with suitable data access. Oracle doesn't say whether MCP users need extra FDI licences; check your Oracle agreement.
