What can an agent do with Tabs through MCP?

It can read customers, contracts, invoices, payments, credit memos, products, revenue schedules, journal entries, commitments, renewals, ARR and the cash forecast. It cannot change anything in Tabs.

Good to know

  • Revenue rows carry recognized, deferred and unbilled totals per customer per month.
  • For ARR, Tabs suggests its ARR report tool over deriving the figure from revenue.
  • No tool creates, sends, voids or collects anything, and none moves money.
  • Tabs says the server runs on the same service layer as its REST API and that the docs are subject to change.

Can

  • List and read customers and customer contacts
  • Read contracts, billing terms, usage and how each performance obligation is recognized
  • List open and overdue invoices, payments and credit memos (including memos by invoice)
  • Read revenue by customer and month, plus revenue journal entries
  • Pull the ARR report and the cash forecast
  • List upcoming renewals and usage commitments
  • List the Tabs instances your login can reach

Cannot

  • Create, edit, send or void invoices, contracts or any other record (per Tabs, all tools are read-only)
  • Collect payments or move money
  • See more than the signed-in user can see in Tabs (per Tabs)

What access does it get?

The same data the signed-in Tabs user can see, read-only. Tabs says access follows your existing login and role, and it publishes no MCP-specific scopes.

WhereScopes and permissions (as documented)Admin requirement
Tabs MCP server and Claude connector (remote, OAuth)MCP scope names are not documented by Tabs. The server's OAuth metadata advertises only identity scopes (openid, profile, email, offline_access); data access follows the user's Tabs role, across every instance that login can reach. There is no toggle to narrow tools; the least-privilege lever is to sign in with a Tabs login whose role covers only what you need.Tabs doesn't document which Tabs roles can connect. Claude Team/Enterprise: if Tabs isn't available to members, a Claude Owner adds it (Tabs says an admin can add a custom connector with the server URL). ChatGPT Business/Enterprise/Edu: a workspace admin must allow custom apps first, per Tabs.

How do I connect it?

In Claude, add Tabs from the connector directory and sign in with your Tabs account. Other clients take the server URL https://integrators.prod.api.tabsplatform.com/mcp and open the Tabs sign-in on first use.

  1. From the Tabs app: go to Settings → Integrations, click Connect on the Claude tile, then Connect with Claude. Or go straight to claude.ai/directory/connectors/tabs (the link Tabs documents); the public listing at claude.com/connectors/tabs has an Add to Claude button.
  2. Click Connect on the Tabs listing and sign in with your Tabs account.
  3. If Tabs isn't listed for your organization (Team/Enterprise), a Claude Owner adds it under Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector with https://integrators.prod.api.tabsplatform.com/mcp (menu path per Tabs).
  4. Check it with a prompt such as "Which Tabs instances do I have access to?"

Tabs says connectors added on claude.ai are also available in Claude Desktop and mobile. Anthropic marks the listing as verified.

What should a finance team watch for?

The server cannot change data. It can read everything your Tabs login can see, across every instance you can reach, and Tabs publishes no rate limits or data-handling terms for it.

  • Instance selection: if your login reaches several Tabs instances, name the one you want in every prompt ("For Acme, …"); Tabs lists data from the wrong company as a known pitfall.
  • Tabs publishes no rate limits. Its troubleshooting section only says to wait a minute and retry after a rate-limit message. Tabs' launch post says the server uses the same filters and pagination as the Tabs REST API; the MCP docs don't state a page size, so check that totals cover every page before relying on them.
  • Read-only access still carries a risk. Invoice, contract and contact text is untrusted input. If a write-capable connector (email, ledger, payments) is on in the same chat, an injected instruction in a Tabs record could push the agent to act there, so keep approval on for those tools.
  • Tool counts differ between Tabs' docs (30) and Claude's listing (27); Tabs says to disconnect and reconnect to pick up new tools. The Claude listing's documentation link still points to Tabs' retired help-centre guide (it returns 404), so use docs.tabs.com/mcp.
  • Tabs' MCP docs don't address training or retention; Tabs' website links its trust centre (trust.tabs.com) and the Claude listing links Tabs' privacy policy. Check those and your AI provider's policies before connecting.
  • AI totals for ARR, deferred revenue or AR aging are drafts until they tie to the reports in the Tabs app.

How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?

Every tool is read-only, so it suits questions, reconciliation checks and draft reporting. Anything that changes Tabs or the ledger stays in the Tabs app.

Inside a company

  • Age open invoices by customer into 30, 60 and 90-day buckets and spot old balances ahead of a collections review.
  • Draft a deferred revenue roll-forward for the month and compare it with the close workpapers.
  • Trend ARR for the past year next to upcoming renewals that have no renewal booked.
  • Summarise next quarter's cash forecast for a board pack, edited by a person.

At an accounting firm

  • Prepare a client revenue close review from recognized, deferred and unbilled totals, then tie it to Tabs reports.
  • Summarise how Tabs is recognizing a client contract, obligation by obligation, as input to an ASC 606 memo the engagement team drafts and concludes on.
  • List credit memos by invoice to check adjustments before a reconciliation.
  • Review a client's upcoming renewals and usage commitments for an advisory meeting; the firm user needs their own Tabs login with access to that client's instance, since access follows the Tabs login and role.

The server can't change Tabs. Still, keep a person approving anything that changes your ledger or system of record, and treat AI figures as drafts until they tie out.

FAQ

Is this official?

Yes. Tabs hosts the server and documents it at docs.tabs.com/mcp, and Tabs Platform, Inc. publishes the Claude directory listing. There is no open-source version.

Is it free?

Tabs publishes no separate MCP price. You need a Tabs account with access to at least one instance, plus an AI client plan that supports connectors.

Does it change data in Tabs?

No. Tabs says all tools are read-only. There are no tools to create, edit, send or void records or to move money.

Is my data used to train models?

Tabs' MCP docs don't say. Check Tabs' terms and trust centre and your AI provider's training and retention policies before connecting.

Can my accountant use it on my behalf?

Tabs doesn't document this. The connection uses the Tabs login of whoever signs in, so an accountant would need their own Tabs access to your instance.
