Trello MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other clients: what it does, access, how to connect
Trello (Atlassian) runs an official hosted MCP server at mcp.trello.com that reads and writes boards, cards and checklists in one workspace, OAuth only. Verified 21 Oct 2026.
- Official MCP server (remote) · read & write
- Claude connector · read & write

- Hosting
- Remote HTTP at https://mcp.trello.com/v1, hosted by Atlassian. There is no local server. The Apache-2.0 GitHub repo holds only docs and an optional agent skill.
- Auth
- OAuth 2.0 only; Trello says API tokens are not supported for MCP. One workspace per connection.
- Read / write
- Read and write. 15 tools on the Claude listing: by tool name, 9 read (including search) and 6 write. Archive only; no permanent deletes. No tool moves money.
- Works with
- Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and any MCP client that accepts a remote URL.
- Plan requirement

What can an agent do with Trello through MCP?
It can read and search boards, lists, cards, checklists, the Inbox and Planner, and create, update, move or archive cards and checklists. The Claude listing shows 15 tools, 6 of which write.
Trello's README groups the tools by object: member profile, workspaces, boards, lists, cards, checklists, search, Planner and Inbox.
What it can write
- Create boards, cards, checklists, checklist items and Inbox cards
- Update cards and checklist items
- Move cards and lists
- Mark cards done
- Attach labels
- Link cards to calendar events
How writes behave
- Trello doesn't document a draft or approval step.
- Writes such as creating, moving or archiving cards apply in Trello straight away, as the signed-in user.
- Archiving is the most destructive action. Trello says destructive deletes are not supported, so the assistant can archive cards and lists but can't permanently delete them.
- No tool touches payments or money.
Good to know
- Trello lists comments, attachments, custom fields, activity history and member management as coming later, and says more tools are planned.
- The Claude listing notes that a connector's tools can change.
Can
- Read your profile, the workspace, boards, labels, lists, cards and checklists
- Search cards and boards by keyword
- Create boards, cards, checklists and checklist items; update and move cards; move lists
- Mark cards done, attach or detach labels, and archive cards and lists
- View, create, update and archive Inbox cards
- View Planner calendar events, link cards to events, and create focus-time events (Premium or Enterprise)
Cannot
- Permanently delete anything; archive is the limit (per Trello)
- Read or write comments, attachments, custom fields or activity history yet (listed as coming later by Trello)
- Reach more than one workspace per connection at launch (per Trello)
- Authenticate with a Trello API token (per Trello)
- Go beyond the signed-in user's own Trello permissions (per Trello)
What access does it get?
The signed-in user's own Trello access, limited to the one workspace chosen on the consent screen, with Read and Write permissions you approve there.
| Where | Scopes and permissions (as documented) | Admin requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted server and Claude/ChatGPT listings (remote, OAuth) | Trello says it can request Read and Write permissions; its FAQ also describes Search as finding content without changing it. Trello doesn't document granular scope names. Inbox and Planner permissions may be disabled for a workspace your organisation does not own. To change permissions later, disconnect and reconnect. | Trello says MCP access is on by default for Premium and Enterprise. If an admin has restricted it, users see "Access to this domain is restricted" or "Permissions are blocked for this workspace" (README FAQ). On Enterprise, admins can uncheck read_trello or write_trello under Atlassian Administration › Rovo › Rovo MCP server › Permissions, allow or block MCP domains, and set the Read, Write and Search levels per the README's "Configure Atlassian Rovo MCP server permission" page. Claude Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector. |
How do I connect it?
Add Trello from the Claude or ChatGPT directory, or add https://mcp.trello.com/v1 as a custom connector, then pick one workspace and approve permissions on Trello's consent screen.
- Open claude.ai/directory/connectors/trello and add Trello, or go to Customize › Connectors › Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.trello.com/v1.
- Start the connection, sign in to Trello and choose one workspace on the consent screen.
- Review the permissions; if you only need answers, grant Read without Write where the consent screen allows it.
- Test with a read-only prompt, such as listing cards due this month, before asking for changes.
- Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector before members connect.
The Claude directory lists Trello as Anthropic verified, added July 2026.
What should a finance team watch for?
Trello documents no draft or approval step for writes, the assistant can see everything the user can see in the chosen workspace, and each connection covers only one workspace.
- Creates, updates, moves, mark-done and archive actions apply in Trello as the signed-in user. Trello documents no draft step. Keep your client's per-call approval on, especially for bulk card moves on a close board.
- Trello says the AI can see all Trello content the user can access in the workspace, including content you didn't ask about. Connect with an account that sees only what the task needs.
- If you don't need changes, grant Read only. Enterprise admins can switch off write_trello for the whole organisation. Trello says access can be revoked at any time, so disconnect the connector in your AI client when a task or engagement ends. That matters most for per-client workspace connections at firms. To change permissions, reconnect.
- Card titles, descriptions and checklist text are untrusted input: an injected instruction in a card could push the agent to move, archive or create cards. Don't approve calls you didn't ask for.
- One workspace per connection at launch; firms with a workspace per client need a separate connection for each.
- Trello notes that MCP use consumes your AI client's message limits or tokens. Trello's MCP pages make no training statement; see Atlassian's Privacy Policy and your AI provider's terms.
How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?
Reads suit status questions on close, audit and client boards; writes suit drafting cards and checklists that a person checks before the agent creates them.
Inside a company
- Ask which month-end close cards are overdue, who owns them and what is due this week.
- Summarise the open checklist items on an audit-request or budget card before a review meeting.
- Rebuild next month's close board as new cards and checklists based on this month's, with a person reviewing the plan before the agent creates them.
- Sort Inbox cards onto the right close or AP board, with each move approved.
At an accounting firm
- List client cards waiting on documents or stuck in review in a client workspace.
- Draft a new-client onboarding checklist on a card for a manager to approve.
- Summarise a client board before a call: open cards, owners and due dates.
- Give each staff member their own Trello sign-in so changes carry their own permissions.
Whatever the use, keep a person approving anything that changes Trello or another system of record, and treat AI status summaries as drafts until checked.

FAQ
Is this official?
Yes. Atlassian hosts the server for Trello, documents it at trello.com/mcp and on GitHub, and the Claude directory lists it as Anthropic verified. It is separate from Atlassian's Rovo MCP Server for Jira and Confluence.
Is it free?
Trello's README says it works with all Trello plans and doesn't list a price. trello.com/mcp says access is on by default on Premium and Enterprise; Trello doesn't say whether it is on by default for Free or Standard. Creating focus-time events in Planner needs Premium or Enterprise. Use counts against your AI client's own limits.
Does it change data in Trello?
Yes. It can create boards, cards and checklists, update and move cards, mark them done and archive cards and lists, as the signed-in user. Trello doesn't document a draft or approval step. It cannot permanently delete anything.
Is my data used to train models?
Trello's MCP pages don't say. They link to Atlassian's Privacy Policy; check it and your AI provider's terms.
Can my accountant use it on my behalf?
Trello doesn't document delegation. Access follows the account that signs in, so an accountant would connect with their own Trello login and get only the access they already have in your workspace.
