Uku MCP server: what it does, what access it gets, how to connect

Uku hosts one remote MCP server (OAuth, Elite plan) with 88 actions: 40 read, 48 write, and 43 of the writes previewed before they run. Verified 21 Oct 2026.

40 read and 48 write/delete actions, per Uku. 43 writes preview and wait for confirmation; 5 small writes run at once.
Works with
Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and mobile, Claude Code, ChatGPT (developer mode) and other MCP clients, per Uku.

What can an agent do with Uku through MCP?

It can read and change your firm's tasks, time, clients, workflows and teams. With financial access it can also draft, send and mark invoices. It cannot delete clients or projects, or manage members, plans or keys.

Uku says the server has 88 actions across 17 areas, including invoicing (10), billing setup (10) and workflow templates (10).

How actions behave

ActionWhat happens
Five writes: logging time, creating a task, ticking a checklist item, uploading a small file and refreshing figuresRun at once.
Internal task commentsPost immediately.
The other 43, including deletes, bulk changes of up to 200 tasks or clients, and money actionsPreview and wait for confirmation.
send_invoice, send_email, Client Portal messages and digitisation requestsContact the client once confirmed. send_invoice and send_email email the client, as do Client Portal messages and digitisation requests.

Money

  • Money actions (32, per Uku) include create_invoice, send_invoice, set_invoice_paid_status and export_invoice_to_accounting.
  • None takes a payment.
  • A payment check only ever moves an invoice to paid.

Accounting systems

What access does it get?

A personal connection gets the signed-in member's own Uku permissions in one company. Firm-wide financial data needs a separate sign-in box or a company-wide integration key.

WhereScopes and permissions (as documented)Admin requirement
Uku MCP (remote, OAuth sign-in)Uku's OAuth metadata lists read and write scopes, but Uku says "What an app asks for is thrown away" and access follows the member's own Uku permissions. An "Also share financial data" box, off by default, gives firm-wide invoices, budgets and contracts. The narrower endpoints show fewer actions.Elite plan; any active member can connect, per Uku. Only members with the account-management right see the financial box. Claude Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector. ChatGPT Business/Enterprise/Edu: an admin enables custom connectors.
Uku MCP (assistant key, headless)Assistant key plus company UUID in headers. An assistant key never carries financial access, and its permissions can't be edited later, per Uku.Only Company Owners and Admins can create the key, under Settings & Apps › Public API, per Uku.
Uku integration key (company-wide)Made under Settings & Apps › Public API. It reaches every client in the company, and adds invoices, budgets and rates if Include financial data is ticked. Uku's capabilities guide names it as the key-based route to financial data; Uku's Claude guide advises against putting integration keys in Claude.Uku's AI pages don't say who can create one. Per Uku, the key acts for the whole company, whoever is chatting.

How do I connect it?

Add https://app.getuku.com/mcp as a custom connector, sign in to Uku, choose the company and click Allow; no client ID or secret is needed.

  1. In Claude, go to Settings › Customize › Connectors and click Add custom connector. Team/Enterprise Owners use Organization settings › Connectors.
  2. Name it Uku, enter https://app.getuku.com/mcp and click Continue. Leave the detected Authentication and OAuth client settings as they are, then click Add.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to Uku, choose the company and click Allow. Tick the financial box only for billing work.
  4. Under Uku › Tool permissions, Uku suggests allowing read-only tools and asking for write/delete tools.

Not in Claude's connector directory as of 21 Oct 2026.

What should a finance team watch for?

Most writes wait for a preview. A few run at once, and some confirmed actions email clients, so read every preview.

  • Five writes skip the preview. Uku's preview stacks with Claude's tool permissions, so keep write/delete tools on ask.
  • The financial box gives firm-wide access to invoices, budgets and contracts. Leave it unticked unless the person connecting does billing.
  • An integration key acts for the whole company, whoever is chatting, per Uku. Pasted into .mcp.json with financial data ticked, it puts firm-wide billing access in a plain-text file; Uku's Claude guide advises against using one in Claude.
  • Sending an invoice emails it to the client. Uku says a Client Portal message can't be recalled. Marking an invoice paid changes billing records.
  • Task and note text can come from Client Portal contacts outside the firm. An injected instruction there could push the agent to send an invoice or email a client, so keep confirmations on.
  • Uku says assistant apps hold about 100 actions and drop the rest silently; the full address is near that limit. Narrower endpoints are separate connectors, and Uku says to add /mcp/core alongside them.
  • Bulk actions cap at 200, and the bulk member change across clients needs an integration key. The activity trail covers roughly the last 100 days, per Uku. Rate limits aren't published.
  • Claude.ai reaches Uku from Anthropic's servers, so an office IP allowlist blocks the connector; Claude Code calls from your own machine, per Uku.
  • To revoke access, click Disconnect under Claude's Connectors › Uku, remove the plugin in ChatGPT, or delete the row under Settings & Apps › Public API in Uku, which Uku says stops it at once. Access also ends when a member is deactivated or the firm leaves Elite.
  • Assistant keys never expire. Uku logs every action with the person and key used; its MCP pages make no training statement.

How could finance teams and accounting firms use it?

Uku is practice management software built for accounting firms, and Uku doesn't document in-house use. Use the reads for workload and billing questions, and the writes for task, time and invoice work that a person confirms.

Inside a company

  • If your team runs its own work in Uku, ask which tasks are overdue this week and who owns them.
  • Log time or create follow-up tasks after a review meeting, then check them in Uku.
  • Pull a team's hours and activity for the month before a resourcing discussion.

At an accounting firm

  • Ask what is on your task list this week (Uku's own starter prompt) or which clients have work behind schedule.
  • With the financial box ticked (only members with the account-management right see it), prepare draft invoices for a billing run, review each preview, and send only after checking them in Uku. Without the box, Uku says the assistant declines invoice questions.
  • Apply a workflow template to a group of clients, checking the preview and then the job's success and skip counts.

In every case, have a person approve anything that sends to a client, changes an invoice or rate, or alters the firm's records.

FAQ

Is this official?

Yes. Uku hosts the server at app.getuku.com and documents it on its own site and help center.

Is it free?

It is part of Uku's Elite plan, per Uku, with no separate MCP charge documented. Your AI client may need a paid plan.

Does it change data in Uku?

Yes. It can change tasks, time, clients and workflows, and with financial access create, send and mark invoices. Uku says 43 of 48 writes preview first.

Is my data used to train models?

Uku's MCP pages don't address training; Uku cites SOC 2 Type I and logs every assistant action in its audit trail. Check Uku's and your AI provider's terms before connecting.

Can my accountant use it on my behalf?

Uku doesn't document this. A sign-in or assistant-key connection runs as that Uku member, with their permissions in one company, so anyone connecting needs their own active Uku login. Uku says an integration key acts for the whole company, whoever is chatting.
